Digitec customers now have the option of connecting to a 5G mobile network. To do this, users must activate the new 5G option. This optional module adds 8 francs per month to your mobile plan fee. Digitec uses the Sunrise mobile network.
Digitec subscribers can activate the 5G option directly in their online Digitec Connect cockpit. When you no longer need the 5G option, you can simply deactivate it at any time.
In order to use the 5G option, you need a 5G-capable device which can connect to the Sunrise network.
How does the Digitec Connect 5G option compare to similar offers?
For a long time now, 5G has only been available to Swisscom and Sunrise subscribers.
That is changing now. 5G connectivity is now offered by Yallo, Lebara, Quickline and Digitec Connect. Salt customers too can now access 5G via a temporary test offer.
Like Yallo and Lebara, Digitec has chosen to offer 5G as an optional add-on. Digitec Connect charges 8 francs per month for the option, while Yallo and Lebara charge 9 francs per month. However, Yallo and Lebara have both been offering their 5G options at a special promotional price of 4.50 francs per month for several weeks now.
How do 5G offers compare including the cost of plans?
Ultimately, the total cost of using 5G is comprised of both the mobile plan fee and the 5G option.
The cheapest Digitec Connect mobile plan which can be used with 5G costs 33 francs per month (includes at least 3 gigabytes of data per month). Digitec Connect charges 57 francs per month for a plan with unlimited local data in Switzerland,
By comparison, Quickline charges 40 francs on up for a fast 5G plan. Yallo charges 67 francs per month, and Lebara charges 68 francs per month. All three of these plans include unlimited local data in their flat fees. Note that these are the standard prices and do not account for special promotional offers.

Verdict by moneyland.ch telecom expert Ralf Beyeler
The new Digitec Connect option is very attractive for mobile users who want fast 5G data connections but do not need more than 4 gigabytes of data every month. If you use more than 4 gigabytes of data per month, the Quickline offer is the more affordable option. Note that this does not apply if you use the Family & Friends offer from Digitec Connect. If you use Family & Friends, Digitec Connect is also the more affordable option for heavier mobile data users.
For most mobile users, the data transfer speeds available through 4G networks are still sufficient. But the introduction of options which let users who need faster data connections access 5G networks is a welcome development.
What is surprising is that there are still many mobile service providers who do not offer their users 5G connectivity. Even well-known mobile service providers like M-Budget Mobile and Coop Mobile have not yet taken the step. But it is likely only a matter of time until other service providers offer 5G options.
