Berne Exchange Index BIRW

The “Berner Index für Regionale Werte” or BIRW is the main index of the Berne Exchange (BX). This index tracks the performance of key mid-sized Swiss companies listed on the exchange.

The BIRW is an indicator of growth and decline in the local Swiss economy, as opposed to the Swiss Market Index (SMI), Swiss Leader Index (SLI) and Swiss Performance Index (SPI) indices which primarily track the performance of export-orientated Swiss companies.
