Burstcoin (BURST) is a cryptocurrency which uses blockchain technology and is based on the proof of capacity system.

This sets it apart from proof of work cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and Monero, and proof of stake cryptocurrencies like BlackCoin. It is one of the first cryptocurrencies to make use of this system.

Burstcoin is marketed as an energy-efficient cryptocurrency due to the elimination of a large part of data processing by the proof of capacity system and its efficient use of unused data storage.
