Cache Server

Normally, data is first transferred to an Internet service provider (ISP) over the public Internet. A cache server, on the other hand, has a direct connection to an Internet service provider, enabling the direct transfer of data.

Streaming services like Netflix, for example, install cache servers holding their videos at many Internet service providers. This prevents bottlenecks because the video can be streamed directly off the cache server.
