Central Securities Depository

A central securities depository is a financial services provider which stores securities and plays a role in managing the transaction of securities ownership without the transfer of securities themselves.

Central securities depositories may use secure physical storage facilities in which paper stock certificates are held along with records of ownership changes, or electronic storage facilities in which records of stock ownership are only stored electronically.

The SIX SIS AG manages the central securities depository for the SIX Swiss Exchange.
