A representative survey conducted by independent online comparison service moneyland.ch in April 2022 collected data about which credit cards and prepaid cards residents of Switzerland use, and about customer satisfaction with card issuers. A total of 1500 people between the ages of 18 and 74 years old across both of Switzerland’s major linguistic regions took part in the survey.
General satisfaction with credit cards
On the whole, Swiss are content with their credit cards, with the average customer satisfaction rating sitting at 7.9 out of 10 points. Even the lowest total ratings are all still over 7 points, which equates to a “good” rating on the moneyland.ch customer satisfaction scale.
There are small differences between individual aspects of customer satisfaction. The customer support when problems arise, the clarity of documents, and the friendliness of employees received 7.9 out points each. Value for money received and average rating of 7.8 points.
The credit cards with the highest customer satisfaction
For conventional credit cards, the highest customer satisfaction ratings went to Bank Cler (issued by Viseca) with 8.3 points, the Migros Cumulus Mastercard (Cembra Money Bank) with 8.2 points, Cornèrcard, and the Viseca-issued cards from cantonal and Raiffeisen banks, with 8 points each.

Cards from neobanks are gaining popularity
Neobanks are particularly popular among adults between the ages of 26 and 49 years old, with 8 percent of Swiss in this age group use a card from either Neon or Revolut, compared to around four percent of adults in other age groups.
The survey also shows that Neon has been able to nearly double its user base over the past year. At the time of the 2021 survey, around 3 percent of Swiss said that they used a card from the Zurich-based neobank. In 2022, the figure is 6 percent.
“Swiss credit cards now have serious competition from payment cards offered by neobanks,” says moneyland.ch CEO Benjamin Manz. Many of these cards are not credit cards in the classic sense, but they can be used for many of the same applications.
Neon’s high average customer satisfaction rating of 8.4 out of 10 points – the highest for any card – is another indicator that the newcomers should be taken seriously. The card from foreign neobank Revolut has somewhat lower customer satisfaction ratings, at 8 out of 10 points. Cards from other neobanks like Wise do not have a broad enough Swiss user base to allow for representative customer satisfaction ratings.
The most popular credit cards
Credit cards from cantonal banks are the most widely used in Switzerland, followed by the Cumulus Mastercard from Migros. Around 18 percent of survey participants use one of these cards. Only 5 percent of adult residents do not use any credit cards at all. Women and young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 are the most likely to not use a credit card.
