Only a few football matches are broadcast on public Swiss television. In Switzerland, many football matches are only played on one pay TV or streaming service which holds exclusive broadcasting rights. As a football fan living in Switzerland, you either have to be content with the football matches offered by one service provider, or be ready to cough up a lot of money to pay for multiple TV plans.
Blue is the only pay TV service for football. It is offered in combination with conventional Swiss TV plans like those from Swisscom, Sunrise, UPC and Quickline. Mysports, the pay TV service from Sunrise, no longer airs football matches.
There are also specialized sports TV video streaming services like Dazn and Sky Sport. Blue Sport is also available as a video streaming plan.
What do sports streaming services cost?
Blue Sport, Dazn, and Sky Sport use models similar to that of Netflix. You subscribe to a plan and pay a monthly or annual fee. You can access the streaming service and watch football via any Internet connection on your desktop, laptop, on a television set using a TV box (like Apple TV) or on your smartphone or tablet using an app.
The Blue Sport subscription costs 49.90 francs per month. If you subscribe with a minimum contract term of 12 months, you pay a lower 34.90 francs per month.
The Dazn sports streaming plan costs 34.90 Swiss francs per month (Super Sports subscription) or 49.90 francs per month (Unlimited subscription). The monthly cost is lower if you get annual subscriptions, at 24.90 francs per month for the Super Sports plan and 34.90 francs per month for the Unlimited plan.
Sports streaming service Sky Sport costs 24.90 francs per month.
What does Blue from Swisscom offer football fans?
Swiss telecom provider Swisscom is a major football broadcaster. For many years, Swisscom's sports offering (called Teleclub at the time) was only accessible to customers with both an Internet plan and a TV plan from Swisscom. Today, Swisscom's sports broadcasts are available via a TV streaming subscription and through a supplemental subscription that you can get with TV plans from Swisscom, UPC and other service providers.
The Blue Sport plan costs 49.90 francs per month. If you get an annual subscription, the per-month cost is 34.90 francs. Blue Sports includes up to 45 channels with live sports broadcasts.
Which football matches can I watch with free TV channels?
Swiss public television does not broadcast a large number of football matches.
Currently, Swiss public television stations RSI (Italian), RTS (French), and SRF (German) broadcast one Credit Suisse Super League match per round. They also show some UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europe League matches. Swisscom’s free Blue Zoom channel (formerly Teleclub Zoom) regularly broadcasts football matches, including one game from each round of the Swiss Dieci Challenge League.
Many national matches, World Cup qualification rounds, and World Cup and European Cup matches are broadcast on free-to-watch public and commercial TV channels.
Where can I watch Swiss football?
All Credit Suisse Super League football matches and some matches from the Dieci Challenge League can be watched on Blue from Swisscom.
Where can I watch UEFA matches?
The UEFA Champions League is one of the most popular football tournaments and pitches the best football clubs in Europe against each other. A few UEFA Champions League matches are broadcast on free Swiss public television. Some UEFA Europe League matches are also broadcast on public television.
All other UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europe League matches, and some UEFA Conference League matches, are only broadcast on Swisscom's Blue paid subscription.
Some Women's Champions League matches are broadcast on Dazn.
