May pilar 1 funds be used towards property for prime residences outside Switzerland ?
Hi there,
Swiss pillar 1 (social security) retirement assets cannot be withdrawn ahead of retirement for the purpose of purchasing a home.
This sets them apart from pillar 2 (occupational) retirement assets and pillar 3 (private) retirement assets, which can be withdrawn ahead of retirement for the purpose of purchasing a primary residence or obtaining shares in cooperative housing establishments.
The only instance in which pillar 1 assets can be withdrawn ahead of retirement is when individuals who are not citizens of Switzerland nor of EU or EFTA member countries relocate to countries which are not EU or EFTA members.
