The housing complex we rent in has very long notice periods for ending contracts. In order to escape this we found a nice pair of new tenants which have good income and should meet all requirements.

But just as we were celebrating our move, the new tenants told us that the property managers had rejected them as tenants because of they "don't fit in to the neigborhood". This may have something to do with their pets or their children, but either way I find it absurd.

Now I am wondering whether we can just up and go, since we did find good potential tenants that they should be happy with. We certainly don't want to pay another couple months of 2500 francs rent and we want to move ASAP.

Hello there,

The exact terms and conditions attached to your rental agreement will dictate whether or not you can move out ahead of the end of the notice period. As a general rule though, your landlords must deem the proposed tenants to be "suitable" and in most cases you will only be released from your rental contract once the contract with the new tenant has been signed by both parties.

Your landlord has the right to reject proposed tenants if they feel that the tenant is not suitable. In this case you will have to propose another tenant or continue renting the property until the end of the notice period.
