Car insurance and divorce

Hello, 

My husband and I are in the process of getting a divorce after 20 years of marriage. We had always leased our two cars, both in his name as he is the money earner. I will be getting my car in the divorce settlement but I have two questions: 

1- how do I change the "détenteur" or the holder of the contract

2- how do I approach the car insurance company as it’s never been in my name.

The leasing company must accept you as the new lease holder, so you will have to meet the requirements for that (financial, residence, etc). When you become the leaseholder, the former car insurance in you ex-husbands name will generally be cancelled and you can then take out your own car insurance.

If you aren't able to meet requirements to take over the lease, your ex-husband may be able to co-sign for you.
