We had a major leak in our building which caused a lot of damage. Does household insurance cover the costs?
Hi there,
Household insurance covers damages to personal property, including those caused by a leak. Damages to a building, on the other hand, are not covered by household insurance.
Damage to buildings can be covered by a separate water damage insurance. This will normally be taken out by the property's owners and covers damages from leaking pipes or appliances - which is not covered by most standard buildings insurance policies.
