A friend of mine has to get by without a drivers license for 6 months after causing some serious crap.

He is wondering whether or not he has to keep paying for his car insurance during this time when he can't even drive. Can he give up his license plates to save having to pay for car insurance?

Does he need to tell the insurance company that he lost his license or did the police already tell them?
