My car was broken into and my laptop stolen. Does my Swiss household insurance cover this?
Greetings,
This may or may not be covered by household insurance, depending on which specific coverages are included on your policy and which insurance provider you work with.
Many Swiss insurance providers specifically exclude car break-ins from the "burglary" category and place them under the "simple theft" category instead. Simple theft which occurs outside of your private property is not covered by basic Swiss household insurance policies.
If your policy includes the optional rider covering "simple theft away from home", then your personal property is covered regardless of where the incident occurs.
