Hi forum,

I recently got my first car which uses an electronic locking system. You don't need to unlock the car using the key. Just having the key close to the car unlocks the doors.

My question is, if someone where to open my car using a hacked electronic device and steal my stuff from inside, how would I prove to either the police or the insurance that my car was broken into?

Assuming that I would probably have the key on me or even enter my car before I would notice that stuff was stolen from inside, there would be no evidence to show that my claims aren't bogus.

Is there anyone here has has successfully or unsuccessfully made claims in a similar scenario? What was your experience?

Swiss household insurance providers generally treat all theft from cars as simple theft, regardless of whether the car is locked or unlocked when the theft occurs. So for the purpose of insuring goods in your car against theft, it makes no difference how the thief gained entry to the car.

If your household insurance includes the insurance rider for simple theft away from home, then theft from cars is generally covered. Some items (cash and cash equivalents, for example) might be excluded from cover. You can find more information about insurance for simple theft away from home in this guide:

If you car itself is stolen by way of car hacking, then whether or not the theft is fully covered depends on whether your partial-casco car insurance includes cover for car hacking. You can find an overview in this guide:
