Hi people,

I have 3 dogs and some other pets and we love to let them play out in the garden. A few recent incidents have gotten us wondering about liability for damages caused by pets. What happens when a dog breaks something that belongs to someone else?

Can you get liability insurance for pets?

Thanks

Hi there,

Liabilty for damages caused by pets is covered by basic personal liability insurance. If you do not have personal liability insurance, getting this coverage is highly recommended. You can compare liability insurance policies here.

As a dog owner, it is important to get adequate coverage for possible injuries to other people as well as damages to property. A sum insured of 5 million Swiss francs is recommended.

Note that personal liability insuance only covers damages to other people's property. Your own possessions are not covered.
