Hi all,

I registered as ANobAG couple of days ago and my pension provider told me that it would be possible to take pension assets out since I am not obliged to contribute to Pillar 2.

Now, since I am not self-employed, can I freely invest the cash outside of the vested benefits account? Asking because of the tax authorities, since they are clueless as well.

Many thanks for your reply and help in advance!

AFAIK your pension fund is correct. You can withdraw your benefits because you are no longer subject to the occupational pension fund requirement.

But when you withdraw the benefits from the pillar 2, you will pay tax on the withdrawn benefits.

You can also ask your pension fund to transfer the money to a vested benefits foundation, if you prefer to leave them in the pillar 2. There are now a number of good solutions for investing vested benefits without withdrawing them from the pillar 2. Two that come to mind are Finpension and Viac.

Thanks for the reply!

I am clear about the taxes I will need to pay, what I was not sure about is the fact how will Steueramt look at those assets later, if I invest the rest of the money?

The VIAC vs self investing is what I am wondering about. I am considering purchasing real estate abroad to diversify my portfolio but only if I can withdraw the 2nd pillar (as ANobAG, not for home purchase in CH)…

If anyone has experience/thoughts, that would be awesome! Thanks in advance!
