I am working on becoming self-employed and would like to withdraw my pension fund savings to invest in my business. Do I need to get a document confirming my self-employment status from the SVA (I live in canton Zurich) before I can make the withdrawal?

It is up to your pension fund to determine your eligibility to withdraw your pension savings. You should not have to handle the administration in this regard.
