Can I deduct my mortgage from my Swiss taxes?
Hi there,
You cannot deduct the entire mortgage amount from your taxable income. Only the actual cost of the mortgage - meaning the interest you pay - can be deducted.
The tax deduction for mortgage interest payments is limited to 50,000 Swiss francs per year, plus capital gains. Capital gains may include income from renting out your porperty or the imputed rental value of a home which you live in yourself.
In some cantons, interest paid for construction loans is not deductible.
