I ordered some stuff online recently and I just got the bill now. The funny thing is that the online store is charging me VAT on top of the price which I bought the stuff. They expect me to pay 8% VAT on top of the price which was shown on the website which means I am not really getting much of a deal. Is that kosher? Seems pretty doggy to me.

Hi there,

Swiss law requires retailers to include VAT in published prices (find these rules here). If the VAT rate is changed by the federal government, the new rate must be reflected in price tags within 3 months of the change.

You only have to pay the price published on the price tag at which the store agreed to sell you the merchandise.

Best regards from Moneyguru
