What is the logic behind the higher health insurance premiums charged to smokers? I can understand that life insurance premiums would be higher because the risk of death is higher. But people normally get sicker as they get older. The older a person gets, the more health insurance benefits they are likely to claim. So how does it make sense that people who (on average) live shorter pay higher health insurance premiums?
