When you use Google Pay, you pay the same fees which you pay when you pay with your Swisscard credit card directly. That means local purchases in Switzerland are generally free of charge, while you pay foreign transaction fees when you make purchases from foreign merchants.
4. How popular is Google Pay in Switzerland?
Google Pay is not yet widely used in Switzerland. Only 9% of consumers in Switzerland have used Google Pay at all, as the 2020 Swiss Payments Survey by moneyland.ch shows.
It is likely that mobile payments will become more popular in the future, in which case their significance in Switzerland may also increase.
