GPRS

The abbreviation GPRS stands for general packet radio service.

GPRS is an extension of the GSM network standard and enables more efficient Internet connections using data packages. GPRS first became available in the year 2000.

Because Swiss mobile network operators Salt, Sunrise, and Swisscom have phased out their GSM networks, GPRS can no longer be used in Switzerland. However, customers of Swiss mobile service providers can still use GPRS when roaming in countries with GPRS-enabled GSM networks.
