Lessee

A lessee is a person or entity which leases property from another person or entity (a lessor). The term lessee is synonymous with the term leaseholder.

A lease is a contract between a lessee and a lessor by which the lessor grants a lessor the right to use their property – typically in exchange for a leasing fee. Lessees are required to pay lease fees as agreed to in lease agreements.

Examples of widely-used leases include home rentals, car leasing and business equipment leasing. In Switzerland, the term leasing is most widely used in relation to car leasing. When you lease a car, you are the lessee and the leasing service provider is the lessor. The car is owned by the lessor, which grants you as the lessee the right to use their car as long as you make lease payments.
