Swisscom is increasing the data transfer speeds of two of its home Internet plans, with immediate effect. The prices of the Internet plans are not affected.
Which Internet plans are being updated?
These Swisscom home Internet plans are being updated to higher Internet speeds:
- inOne home Internet S. The plan now has a maximum connection speed of 100 Mbps, up from the previous 50 Mbps. The price remains unchanged at 65 francs per month.
- inOne home Internet M now has a maximum connection speed of 300 Mbps, up from the previous 200 Mbps. The price remains unchanged at 80 francs per month.
Are all plan subscribers benefiting from the higher Internet speeds?
Unfortunately, no. Many subscribers to the Internet S and Internet M plans will not benefit from an effective increase in data transfer speeds. The benefit is primarily for subscribers who use optical fiber connections for their Internet plans.
Subscribers who access the Internet via copper telephone lines are less likely to notice a difference in connection speeds. Connections which make use of so-called alternative optical fiber technology are also less likely to access the full benefit of the increased maximum Internet speeds. In many cases, subscribers who live outside of town centers have connections which do not support high data transfer speeds.
Which Internet plans are not changing?
The speeds of these Swisscom home Internet plans are not being updated:
- inOne home light. This maximum speed of this home Internet plan remains at 10 Mbps. The price tag is still 50 francs per month (including a home phone connection and TV plan).
- inOne home Internet L still has a theoretical maximum speed of 10 Gbps. It still costs 90 francs per month.
How do Internet plans from Swisscom compare to offers from competitors?
Internet plans from Swisscom are relatively expensive. Home Internet plan with a maximum speed of 100 Mbps are available from other Internet service providers for as little as 40 francs per month. Swisscom’s 65-franc price tag is notably more expensive. Internet plans with a maximum connection speed of 300 Mbps are offered by many service providers for around 50 francs per month. Swisscom with its 80-franc price tag is expensive by comparison.

Verdict by moneyland.ch telecom expert Ralf Beyeler
Swisscom’s upping of home Internet plan speeds is largely a marketing gimmick. It is a shame that the changes do not benefit subscribers to inOne home light – Swisscom’s slowest home Internet plan. Those are the users for whom a connection speed increase would have been the most noticeable.
With the plans for which Swisscom is raising connection speeds, most subscribers likely will hardly notice the difference in practice.
