Trading Day

The term trading day denotes the combined opening hours of all exchanges on which a specific asset or security is traded. In the case of assets which are traded on exchanges around the world, a trading day extends from the Asian session to the European session and the American session.

In a narrower sense, a trading day is a period of time made up of the opening hours of a stock exchange on a given day. All transactions on a stock exchange must be initiated during the trading day.

The opening hours of stock exchanges – and their subsequent trading days – vary between exchanges. Some assets such as cryptocurrencies and blockchain tokens are traded on automated exchanges which do not have limited trading days.
