Advance Healthcare Directive

An advance healthcare directive is a form of living will through which the testator specifies what steps should be taken or abstained from with regards to their healthcare in the event that they become incapable of judgment.

An advanced healthcare directive may be combined with a healthcare proxy which legally endows a specific person or entity to ensure that the advance healthcare directive is adhered to.

In Switzerland, an advance healthcare directive normally makes up part of a more general living will known as a Vorsorgeauftrag (German) or a mandat pour cause d‘inaptitude (French).
