With immediate effect, Sunrise is offering three new mobile plans for young customers under 27 years old. The three plans are Up Mobile XL Young, Up Mobile L Young, and Up Mobile M Young. They are replacing Sunrise’s Fresh plans. The mobile plans of existing customers are not affected by the change.
The allowances included in the plans are identical to those of corresponding mobile plans for adults. But there is a big difference in the pricing. The basic plan fees are just half as high as those of the adult plans.
An overview of the new mobile plans:
All of the plans include unlimited calls and mobile data within Switzerland in their flat fees.

The mobile plans do not have a minimum subscription term. This is advantageous because you can terminate your plan at any time in keeping with the notice period, and are not tied into a long contract.
The disadvantage is that when you turn 28 years old, you will be moved to a much more expensive adult mobile plan. Previously, the age limit for getting Sunrise’s youth plans was 30 years old, and you could keep your youth plan with the same conditions after you turned 30 as well.
Price comparison with other mobile plans
If you primarily use your phone in Switzerland, there are cheaper plans available. But if you travel outside of Switzerland often, the new youth plans from Sunrise are relatively cheap. However, you may still find better deals as part of special promotions. For that reason, it is always a good idea to compare mobile plans based on your individual needs.
Are youth plan offers beneficial for consumers?
Swisscom and Salt have also offered youth plans in the past. But currently, Sunrise is the only Swiss cellular service provider that still has special plans just for young people.
In the past, youth plans were much cheaper than similar plans for adult customers. But in the meantime, subsidiaries of the big telecom companies and other independent mobile service providers offer cheaper plans without any age limit. Offers sold under the main brands of the big telecom service providers, on the other hand, have hardly gotten cheaper, and some have gotten more expensive. Special youth mobile plans have become redundant because the standard plans from smaller mobile service providers are often cheaper.
Conclusion by moneyland.ch telecom expert Ralf Beyeler
Sunrise replaced its Young product lineup with the Fresh plans exactly two years ago. Now it has come full circle, and the Fresh offers are being replaced by Young offers again.
Not only the name is changing, but the philosophy is also returning to the old days. The Young plans are much cheaper, but exclude some of the extras, like the streaming plan and mobile phone insurance.
