As of December 1, 2022, residents of Switzerland can subscribe to the Paramount Plus streaming service.
The stand-alone plan costs 12 francs per month, and includes German dubbing as an option (when available). Annual subscriptions taken out up until January 8, 2023, cost 90 francs per year, thanks to an introductory promotion. Paramount Plus is also included in several bundled TV plans from Canal Plus, with the option of French dubbing, when available. These plans include other features as well, and have prices starting at 19 francs per month. You can watch Paramount Plus in the original language (primarily English) on both the stand-alone version and Canal Plus. If you only want to watch Paramount Plus, then the stand-alone version works out cheaper.
The Paramount company owns Paramount Pictures, MTV, Comedy Central, Showtime, and other popular entertainment platforms. It produces and markets numerous movies and series. Paramount Plus subscribers get access to feature film classics like Mission Impossible and Top Gun, and numerous series including Star Trek, Dexter, CSI, NCIS, and Hawaii Five-0.
Currently, subscribers in Switzerland can stream around 400 movies and many series released by Paramount Pictures. “Other productions from Paramount’s extensive archives will likely be added in the future,” expects moneyland.ch telecom expert Ralf Beyeler.
Price comparison
The following table shows that Paramount Plus sits about midway in terms of price. It costs 3 francs more per month than Apple TV Plus, and around 2 francs more than Sky Show Cinema and Amazon Prime Video. Paramount Plus has approximately the same price tag as the Netflix HD (720p) subscription, but has better picture quality.

Success in Switzerland is not a given
According to the representative Swiss video streaming survey by moneyland.ch, Netflix was the most popular paid video streaming service in Switzerland in 2022. A high 58 percent of survey participants said that they use Netflix. It is followed at a distance by Disney Plus (22 percent), Amazon Prime Video (15 percent), and Apple TV Plus (11 percent).
Now Paramount is joining the fight for video streaming customers. “Luring viewers away from Netflix and other competitors will likely be difficult,” believes telecom expert Ralf Beyeler. “And convincing Swiss consumers to get an additional subscription also is not an easy task.”
Like all other streaming services, Paramount will try to appeal to customers by offering exclusive content. “Paramount’s archive is packed with movies and series, and series like Star Trek, CSI, and Navy CIS have strong existing fan bases,” observes Beyeler. But the expert has doubts as to whether those factors alone will be enough to gain a broad audience in Switzerland.
