Black Friday Offers From Banks and Financial Service Providers in Switzerland

November 22, 2022 - Raphael Knecht

Swiss financial services providers are joining in on Black Friday sales, with several banks and credit card issuers launching special promotions. In this report, moneyland.ch provides an overview of these offers.

As usual, Swiss consumers can expect numerous discounts for electronics and other household items this Black Friday. But Swiss financial services providers are also beginning to warm to the idea of Black Friday discounts. A number of companies – particularly those with digitally-offered services like neobanks – are holding special sales in 2022. Here, moneyland.ch gives you an overview of these Black Friday financial offers.

  • Cembra: Black Friday promotion

Cembra Money Bank is launching customer-specific promotions which reward customers who use their credit cards on Black Friday. The bank refused to disclose the exact details to moneyland.ch, as its Black Friday offers have not been made public.

moneyland.ch knows of at least one offer which at least some customers have received. The Black Friday promotion rewards holders of the Certo Mastercard from Cembra Money Bank who spend at least 500 francs with their card between the 21st and 30th of November with a 10-franc cash back credit. This promotion applies in addition to standard rewards. However, in order to benefit from the 10-franc bonus on eligible spending, cardholders must have registered for the Black Friday promotion by November 17 and November 30. Customers who did not receive the link to the registration page cannot benefit from this offer.

  • Neon: Extended warranties

Swiss neobank Neon is giving its customers extended warranties on goods purchased during the Black Friday week. This extended warranty applies to electronics (minimum value: 50 francs) purchased using the Neon Free card. It adds another two-year guarantee which applies once the warranty that you get from the manufacturer expires.

The offer applies to purchases between November 21 and December 21, 2022. The company told moneyland.ch that in principle, it does not want to promote the kind of disproportionate consumption which is often cited by Black Friday critics. The company is calling the promotion a pre-Christmas present.

  • Raiffeisenbank Zug: Black Friday deal

The Black Friday deal from Raiffeisenbank Zug gives you a 50-percent discount on brokerage fees when you buy certain bonds. The offer is valid between the 7th and 30th of November, 2022 – so it outlasts Black Friday by several days.

This promotion is only being run by Raiffeisenbank Zug. According to a response to moneyland.ch by Raiffeisen Switzerland, it has no knowledge of any similar promotions being offered by other Swiss Raiffeisen banks.

  • Revolut: Discounted Metal plan

Swiss consumers can get the Metal account from Revolut for 90 francs per year instead of the standard 160 francs. The offer includes cash back, travel-related benefits, and a debit card made of metal with a customizable look. It also has lower fees than other Revolut accounts.

The offer is for new customers who sign up between the 15th and the 28th of November.

  • Swisscard: Black Friday promotion

Swiss credit card issuer Swisscard is offering a promotional code (CBpEsMC) for its Cashback credit cards. If you enter this code when applying for a Cashback credit card, you get a 75-franc credit as a welcome bonus. The code is valid until the end of November 2022. This offer is only available to new customers who do not already have a Cashback credit card from Swisscard.

  • Twint: Black Friday week

Financial services provider Twint is promising special deals for the week of November 21st to 27th. The promotions are not directly related to Twint, but are primarily discounted IT and electronic products. Offers appear in the Twint app (Super Deals under Twint+), with new offers becoming active at 8:00 every day.

The company has not yet announced which products will be included in promotions, and how big the discounts will be. But Postfinance has named Nespresso products as an example of Black Friday discounts available through its version of the Twint app.

  • Zak: Higher cash back

From the 21st until the 27th of November, users of the Zak neobank (a Bank Cler brand) will receive higher cash back when they use the Shopmate Cashback function. Zak works with numerous partner stores, and rewards customers with cash back when they buy from these partners. The amount of cash back you earn varies between stores. For example, during the promotion purchases from Manor are rewarded with 12-percent cash back instead of 10 and Booking.com purchases earn 6 percent instead of 5, as confirmed to moneyland.ch by Bank Cler.

Additionally, Zak already ran a special promotion ahead of Black Friday by which new customers received a 100-franc welcome bonus. A bank spokesperson revealed to moneyland.ch that the promotion, along with the promotional code (ZAKDAY), will run again on Black Friday.
