Calculations are based on moneyland.ch algorithms and on the following assumptions:
- The guarantee of independence applies.
- The user profiles available for comparisons are defined here.
- Annual fees: Calculations account for possible introductory annual fees for the first year, and standard annual fees for subsequent years. One-time fees are also accounted for.
- Reward programs: Discounts and cash back rewards are accounted for.
- Statement credits: In the case of prepaid cards with cash back rewards, cash back rewards may exceed total costs. In this case, the total costs can be a negative value, meaning you would make a “profit” equal to the amount shown by using that card.
- Loading fees: Cost calculations account for possible fees for adding money to your prepaid card account.
- Transaction costs: Some prepaid cards charge a fee every time you make a purchase – even for purchases in Switzerland.
- Foreign transaction fees and foreign currency transactions: The comparison accounts for foreign transaction fees charged for purchases and cash withdrawals in foreign currencies.
- Cash withdrawals: Fees for withdrawing cash from your prepaid account at Swiss and foreign ATMs are accounted for. Calculations assume that withdrawals are made at out-of-network ATMs and not those of the issuing bank.
- Swiss franc to euro exchange rates: The comparison accounts for markups added by card issuers to the CHF to EUR interbank rate. The exchange rates used by card issuers and the interbank exchange rate are collected by moneyland.ch on a regular, ongoing basis. Because exchange rates can change daily, it is possible that the total costs shown in the comparison could differ slightly from the actual costs on a given day. For prepaid cards which are offered in more than one currency denomination, the comparison uses the Swiss franc (CHF) version of the card for the comparison. For euro-intensive users, using the euro version of a card lets you avoid card foreign transaction fees and currency exchange markups.
- Costs are rounded to the nearest five centimes.
